What is a Milkin’ Cookie?
If you have not heard of Lactation Cookies for breastfeeding moms, then you are missing out! Lactation cookies are a great and tasty way of getting supplements that promote healthy lactation.
Milkin’ Cookies was created by two mommies who happen to also be physicians. They created Milkin’ Cookies as a way to help their milk supply which suffered while working long hours. It took 35 recipes before they found what they felt was a great tasting and well-balanced cookie.
They are made without preservatives and contain whole wheat flour, oats, flaxseed, and other galactagogues (substances that increase milk production). Oats and Flaxseed being the top galactagogues in Milkin’ Cookies.
One nice thing about Milkin’ Cookies is that they make their cookies in small batches and package them individually. This helps ensure freshness when they arrive at your door. They are shipped within 24-48 hours of being made. They recommend that you freeze cookies you don’t plan to eat within two weeks.
Do Milkin’ Cookies Really Work?
I had my first Milkin’ Cookie after a local retail store was giving out samples. I was nursing my first son at the time.
My first impression of the cookie was that it was very tasty. They are not overly sweet but do have a wonderful balance to them. I sampled the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip. I am well acquainted with baked goods so I know a good cookie when I eat one.
So the burning question is did it help my milk supply? I think it did. I was an overachiever and ate two cookies a day (they recommend at least one a day of course). I was preparing to return to work and had added two pumping sessions to my daily routine of exclusively breastfeeding.
I would pump after my first nursing session in the morning and again at night, an hour or two after my son went to bed. At first, I was pumping maybe 2 ounces total per pumping session. The day after eating my first few cookies, I was pumping 3 ounces per session.
I was thrilled to be getting an extra ounce per session!
I do believe that the cookies helped. It wasn’t a huge improvement but it was something! That extra two ounces per day really helped me build a nice freezer stash for when I returned to work.

What is in Milkin’ Cookies?
One thing I try to watch for when I read labels is can I pronounce all the ingredients listed. what I like about Milkin’ Cookies is that there are NO PRESERVATIVES. The ingredients are easy to read.
I do feel like they are slightly heavy on the sugar but I like having a little treat here and there so 14g of sugar is within my realm of comfort. Plus they are helping with your supply so you have an excuse, right?
I do think the ingredients (while I wouldn’t exactly call them healthy) are natural and that is a big plus in my book!

Pros and Cons of Milkin’ Cookies
Milkin’ Cookies are a good supplement to aid in promoting a healthy milk supply but I do not think they are a miracle worker. I had success using them and I know countless of other moms have too.
They boast a 4.5-star out of 5-star rating on Amazon which is not an easy feat. So something is special about these cookies.

They have natural ingredients (no preservatives) and are very tasty!
One main issue is that they are not cheap which is the main reason them getting an 8 out of 10 from me. However, they are no more expensive than other lactation supplements.
Fenugreek, Goat’s Rue and Blessed Thistle are all great (or should I say better) lactation supplements and are absent in Milkin’ Cookies but are found in other products. There are mothers, however, who cannot take those supplements due to the side effects.
Fenugreek, for example, can cause blood sugar issues in premature babies and issues with those who have asthma. So taking a typical supplement with that ingredient may not be an option for all moms.
So while the ingredients in the Milkin’ Cookies may not seem overly powerful, they are effective in most cases especially for moms with sensitivities.
Bottomline:
Overall, Milkin’ Cookies is a ligament lactation supplement option that does give results. I think most moms (if you are like me) would prefer to eat a cookie once a day then to pop several pills!
If you are in need of a supplement and have not tried Milkin’ Cookies, I highly recommend you give them a shot. Your taste buds will thank you.
