When you think of proper nutrition for moms the conversation is often geared toward pregnancy.
While nutrition and breastfeeding are often mentioned in a quick, ‘eat healthy, drink plenty,’ kind of way, the reality of motherhood can make this next to impossible.
I have 4 kids. Yes, 4… I am lucky to get a bite of leftover cereal before I throw the dish into an overflowing dishwasher.
So often moms overlook their own needs. Not to mention, getting proper nutrition is extremely important when breastfeeding to maintain a healthy supply.
With so many health products on the market, it is hard to know what is safe for a breastfeeding mom and what is going to be the most beneficial to both mom and baby (milk supply).
Not to mention how hard it is to find a protein powder for breastfeeding moms that is safe.
Today’s post is all about nutrition and breastfeeding and my adventures of trying out the Majka lactation products!
Nutrition and Breastfeeding: Review of Majka Products for Moms

When I was first approached by Majka and asked if I wanted to try their products, I was instantly thrilled.
I was 3 months postpartum with my 4th baby and to say it had been a struggle to eat right and focus on my own nutrition would be an understatement.
That is what I love the most about Majka, it is not just another lactation supplement. It is formulated to give moms the fundamental nutrition that they need (despite our busy lives).
Who is Majka?
Majka was started by two moms who struggled with lactation. Teaming up with professional nutritionists, they have created products that not only support lactation but also fulfill the nutritional needs of moms.
Per their website, Majka means:
“Majka” (pronounced modge-kuh) was derived from the Bosnian translation of mother. No matter what part of the world you are from or what language you speak, the bond between mother and child is universal.
What Majka Offers
- Nourishing Lactation Protein Powder
- Lactation Bites (Lactation cookies)
- They also sell a Shaker and some bundle packages
In addition to lactation, Majka’s products are focused on the overall health of moms.
After giving birth, getting proper nutrients is essential.
Eating a healthy and balanced diet while breastfeeding is very important since what a mother eats determines the protein, energy, vitamin, and nutrient content of their breast milk.
This is most important in those first six months as a baby is relying soling on breastmilk for all its nutrients.
Majka products are carefully formulated to meet this nutritional need, making it a very convenient and easy way for moms to get what their body needs while breastfeeding.
Majka Nourishing Lactation Protein Powder
I can’t tell you how many times I have Googled, “Is ‘X’ protein powder safe while breastfeeding?” or “What is the best protein powder for breastfeeding moms?”
With so many chemicals and additives, it can be hard to know what is safe.
Majka’s lactation protein powder is non-GMO, dairy-free, soy-free, has no processed whey protein, synthetic, or artificial sweeteners!
This is perfect for nursing mothers and very helpful for those who have eliminated things like dairy and soy from their diet.
What are the Ingredients?
When you look at the carefully selected ingredients, you can see why this protein powder is perfect for nursing mothers. It includes:
- Prebiotic & Probiotic Blend: Easy to digest
- Plant Based Digestive Enzymes: Helps break down food for increased protein and nutrient absorption
- Organic Protein Blend: Includes six different vegetarian protein sources
- Chelates: Helps in absorption of nutrients
- Lactation Blend: Uses centuries-old ingredients to promote healthy lactation such as fenugreek, fennel, turmeric root, etc.
- Methylfolate: a Non-synthetic form of folate to promote brain and nervous system development
- Fruit & Veggie Blend: For optimal health
Per the Majka website, the benefits of the Lactation Protein Powder go much further than just lactation support:
Supports Digestive Health | Easy to digest | More than 25% of your RDI of Protein in one serving | Lactation support | Helps combat oxidative stress and inflammation | Helps alkalise your body | The heat-free manufacturing process maintains the nutritional integrity and sets it as a standard for the nutrition industry | Nutrient dense, replaces nutritional gaps in an otherwise healthy diet.
How Does the Majka Protein Powder Taste?
I am always leery of trying new protein powders… I am really a snob about the taste and texture.
The thing that stands out to me about the Majka Protein Powder is that is really is not sweet at all. The turmeric flavor really comes through for me. Though I can get hints of clove and fennel. It is earthy.
Most of the protein powders I have tried come in flavors like chocolate, vanilla, etc. I actually don’t care for the fake flavors of those or the amount of sugar that is typically added.
With that said, I actually do like a touch of sweetness but again, I am glad that this powder does not include artificial sweeteners.
I was able to add my own natural sweetener (honey and pure maple syrup are my go-to’s) to my liking, as a result.
How I Prepare My Majka Shakes
I tried a lot of different recipes but my favorite was:
- 1 scoop Majka Protein Powder
- 12 ounces of Almond Milk (I have used both vanilla and unsweetened)
- 1 Banana
- 2 tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup (or honey)
- Small handful of ice cubes
- Blend all ingredients together in the blender and enjoy!
This gave the shake a touch of sweetness and gave me an excuse to have some cocoa powder (anything for chocolate). Delicious!
Using the Majka Shaker
I am obsessed with my Majka Shaker. This is a must-have.
It is extremely sturdy, spill proof, and easy to carry around (fits on my stroller ‘mommy hook’ -whoop).
It has a few features that I find so cool:
1- A built-in mixer to help dissolve the protein powder as you shake it.
2- A built-in compartment to store pills so you can take your prenatals or other vitamins with you.
3- A built-in dry storage compartment to store a scoop of the protein powder to mix when you are ready.
I love how convenient it is to take the shaker with you and mix your shake when you are ready.
I will add though, most protein powders can be gritty. Which I found that true about this one when simply mixed together. So I like to prepare it in the blender but was ok to mix it together if I ran out of time.
Does Majka Lactation Protein Powder Work?
So probably your biggest question: Does this lactation protein powder actually increase your milk supply?
Yes, for me it did.
I have said this before in my extensive review of other lactation products, it takes quite a bit of the lactation stimulating ingredients to see an increase in milk production.
Take Fenugreek, for example.
Studies have shown that you need to take upwards of 3500mg for it to be effective, which is a lot. But it works.
The Majka Lactation Protein Powder contains 2.5g of their lactation blend (not all fenugreek, of course) in every serving. For the sake of my point, I will spell that out: 2.5g = 2500mg.
I drank two of these shakes a day (morning and lunchtime) which translated to 5000mg of the lactation blend. More than enough to see results!
I went from pumping 5oz each morning to 6oz in just a few days of taking it.
While that might seem like a small amount, for a few days, it is definitely not.
See, I only pump once a day so I can add to my freezer stash. If I pumped more often, I am confident that I would see a bigger increase.
And for moms who are dealing with low milk supply or who depend on pumping for most (or all) feedings, every ounce helps!
If I continued taking this on a regular basis, I can see how it would help maintain and support my supply.
Lactation Bites (Lactation Cookies)
The other product offered by Majka is their Lactation Bites.
They are basically lactation cookies and are packed with ingredients that support a healthy milk supply but also act as a great little snack.
- Black Sesame Seeds
- Glossostemon Bruguieri
- Chia Seeds
- Oats & Flaxseed
What is the Texture and Taste?
The Lactation Bites taste similar to the Lactation Protein Powder in that they have a strong turmeric, fennel, clove flavor.
But you also get the sweetness of dates and coconut. They are not overly sweet though. It’s very subtle.
They are packed with grains and remind me of eating a 7-grain bread in that you get a lot of different textures. But they are very dense and do not crumble (a complaint I have about other lactation cookies- they fall apart after one bite).
I am slightly addicted to these.
I have been enjoying them in the mornings with a cup of coffee. The slight sweetness and dense texture make it a perfect pairing!
Do They Increase Your Milk Supply?
The Lactation Bites contain many lactation stimulating ingredients.
These ingredients, like fenugreek, have been shown to contribute to increased supply in nursing mothers.
I know these key ingredients work. I have used them for years with success in other supplements but I decided to put the Majka Bites to the test to see if I noticed any difference.
(*Note: I did want to point out that I tried this BEFORE starting their Lactation Protein Powder to see how the Lactation Bites stood on their own.)
I followed Majak’s directions and ate 1-2 bites about an hour before nursing.
I did notice that when I ate at least 2 bites, that my milk let down was stronger. I was also able to pump about 1/2 ounce more than before I started eating them. Not too bad!
Majka recently added Chocolate Lactation Bites to their inventory. I have not tried them yet, but you can see those, here!
Overall Opinion of Majka: Is it Worth Trying?
Bottom line, Majka products do help with milk production and the added benefits of their nutrient-packed products is a huge plus for helping moms be as healthy as they can.
Their protein powder is amazing for those with allergies and limited diets which can be so hard to find. You can tell they took great care in creating their product and worked hard to formulate a quality product.
I know I stressed it several times but something I love about the Majka products is that unlike other lactation products, they are not just focused on lactation support but also the overall health of the mother.
They truly understand the very important link between overall nutrition and lactation.
I also love that this brand was started by other moms (if you follow me, you know how much I love supporting other moms and their business ventures).
So, if you are looking for a quality lactation supplement, protein powder for breastfeeding, or a great lactation cookie, Majka is a great choice!
I highly recommend you try it out!
