I can remember back to when my first baby was born and how sad my bra selection had become.
It didn’t help that my breasts went from an already-not-so-tiny 34D to a wow-this-is-quite-extra 32H!
Looking for the BEST supportive nursing bra was quite the task! Back then, I hadn’t even heard of Cake Maternity! I was surprised and disappointed when I was told by the super popular and convenient store chain, Motherhood Maternity, that they did not carry a size H and above.
I was literally past the point of being able to buy off the rack…
Next up was the internet.
As most of you know, buying off the internet can be tough when it comes to bra sizes. I ordered my fair share of bras and was mostly disappointed. None of the bras I bought were supportive enough, or they gave me the lovely uni-boob look, or I just spilled out the top (or the side…or the bottom…).
At that point, I just needed something that fit! Nevermind trying to find something cute or sexy…
A nursing bra that was both sexy and supportive seemed like a rare, mythical unicorn. I wasn’t sure it really existed…

Finding Cake Maternity Bras
Then I found Cake Maternity after asking in one of my Mommy Facebook groups.
If you have large breasts, need coverage and comfort, then let me tell you that Cake Maternity is the best supportive nursing bra I have found to date.
Who is Cake Maternity?
If you are not familiar with Cake Maternity, let me introduce you.
They are is a UK based company that carries a wide variety of nursing and maternity wear. They pride themselves on offering styles to fit a wide range of body types.
I am in love with these bras. They have been the lone company that I have found a winning nursing bra from.
They are made incredibly well so you don’t need to worry about them falling apart. They are worth every penny!
There is a Cake style for all your undergarment needs. They have super sexy styles (and casual styles too) all the way to nursing tanks. They have wire, no-wire, shape bras, push-up bras, plus size bras, sports bras, and so much more.
Cake Maternity also offers a wide variety of sizes which is what initially caught my attention.
My 32H? Non-issue for them. I even had more than one style and color to choose from, which doesn’t happen often!
My Adventures With Cake Maternity
The first bra that I purchased from Cake Maternity was their Croissant style.
This is their every day, T-shirt bra. It has underwire and is said to be super supportive.
I knew the second I put that bra on that I was hooked!
It fit perfectly!
I finally had a bra that was supportive without spilling out and it looked great under my clothes. My search for the best supportive nursing bra finally came to an end.
I went on to buy several other styles from them including nursing tanks and sports bras and have loved them all.
I highly recommend grabbing a Cake Maternity bra if you are looking for support, comfort, and want something that still looks great.
I can’t say enough about their bras!

How to Choose the Right Cake Maternity Bra
With all the options in bra styles, how do you choose? Well, that will largely depend on your own style and what you will be wearing it for.
For working out, running, etc the sports bras are the obvious choices, but they also have yoga style bras that would be great for everyday wear for busy, active moms!
Any of the underwire bras could be used for everyday wear or under dresses.
The Rock Candy, Cotton Candy, and Croissant make great T-shirt bras.
The Cotton Candy is a great nighttime bra as well! I highly recommend this bra for pregnancy as it is so comfortable with no underwire but also for the hospital and those first weeks after giving birth. It can be worn all day and still feel great. No wonder it is a best seller!
If you aren’t a fan of underwire, they have plenty of wireless styles that are still so supportive that you won’t even miss the wire.
Really, you can’t go wrong with any of the styles. They fit great and will last you a long time!
Will Underwire Nursing Bras Give Me Clogged Milk Ducts?
This is something I was told at some point during my pregnancy with my first baby, “Don’t wear an underwire nursing bra because you will get terribly clogged milk ducts.”
I honestly don’t remember who I heard it from but I was adamant not to wear one. (And I heard it more than once from multiple people, so it must have been true, right???)
The truth is that underwire nursing bras will NOT cause clogged milk ducts.
What DOES cause clogged milk ducts is a nursing bra that does not fit correctly.
A properly fitting bra (nursing or not) should never cut into your breast around the underarm. In fact, the wire goes around your breast along your rib cage.
I was wearing the wrong fitted bra for YEARS and could not believe the difference when I put on the correct size.
Take the time to be fitted properly. A lactation consultant can help measure you. A seamstress. Even doing your own measurements at home. You might be surprised to find out your real size is a bit larger than what you have been wearing!
Don’t count out the underwire bras and the amazing support you can get from them over the fear of clogged milk ducts.
How to Find Your Cake Maternity Size
It can be tough buying a bra without trying it on first. A lot of reviews of Cake Maternity, state that their bras run small and to consider going up a cup size.
After making several purchases myself, I disagree with this.
The confusion I think comes from customers not realizing what size metric is being used for the Product listing. Cake Maternity is UK based and the sizing for bras is different from the US. That would make sense when reviews say to go up a size.
Make sure you are purchasing your bra size for the country you live in (Google can give you conversion charts if you need it). But if you purchase from Cake Maternity directly (which I recommend), they show right on their website what size metric is being used.
As for finding the correct size, on their website, Cake Maternity has a great page about how to measure and ensure you are buying the right size.

If you are having trouble figuring out your size, another option is to go somewhere and get measured.
Nordstroms is a great place for that. They will measure you for free. I found their measurements to be most accurate and typically use their sizing when buying online.
What Body Type is Best for Cake Maternity Bras?
The premise of my post was regarding the search for the best supportive nursing bra but Cake Maternity bras will fit all body types, shapes, and sizes!
They range from XS, A-cup all the way to plus sizes.
I have a unique issue in that my cup size is large (H) but my band size is on the smaller end (32). A 32H is NOT an easy size to find off the rack. In fact, it’s impossible and typically is a more custom size which translates to hard to find and super expensive!
I had no issue whatsoever finding a range of styles in a 32H with Cake Maternity.
They also have amazing customer service who is just a chat away to help with sizing and styles for your body type.
So the long and short of it is don’t count Cake Maternity out if you think you are too small or large or like me, just all over the place. There really is a bra for all women!
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
So overall, what are the pros and cons of Cake Maternity Bras? I took to the numerous comments and reviews on the various styles and found that overall, moms love these bras. I personally own several styles and love them all. In fact, I don’t wear another brand at the moment. I have yet to find a bra that fits as well and is as comfortable as Cake Maternity’s do.
They are one of the highest-rated nursing bras on the market.
- For styles with lace around the bottom, some complained of it being uncomfortable – I personally am sensative to lace or any “stratchy material” in general and have stayed away from these styles as I knew it would likely bother me. The soft bras like the Croissant are more my speed.
- Some felt the non-wire bras were not supportive enough for large chested mommas – I think for us larger chested moms, this is something we already know. I need underwire support. Plain and simple.
- Some styles are quite pricey – but you get what you pay for, so the price is well worth the quality!
- Sizing can get confusing if you are outside of the US – My suggestion- purchase from Cake Maternity directly, it will be easier to ensure you are getting the correct size and return/exchange if something isn’t fitting right.
- A lot of styles to choose from
- Great range of sizes in most styles
- Very well made, will last – and last, and last, and last! I have several that have made it through multiple pregnancies and breastfeeding journies! I can’t stress enough how worth the price these are!
- Very comfortable and perfect for everyday wear
- Discrete nursing clips on some styles
- Gives great lift and support without giving the uni-boob effect
- Very stylish and could be worn even after weaning
Cake Maternity nursing bras really are all they are advertised to be. The shape they give your body along with the ease of nursing is so worth it!
They are not the cheapest nursing bras but the money you spend on replacing cheap bras and dealing with the discomfort of a bad fit will pay for a Cake bra twice over.
I highly recommend Cake Maternity nursing bras! You can’t go wrong here!
